FOX 66 News at Ten
U.S. News surveys colleges and universities each year and ranks nearly 1,600 in different categories according to their methodology. The U.S. News ranking system rests on two pillars. The formula uses quantitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality, and their researched view of what matters in education.
Data is gathered from each college on up to 16 indicators of academic excellence. Each factor is assigned a weight that reflects how much a measure matters. Finally, the colleges and universities in each category are ranked against their peers, based on their composite weighted score.
"Being included in the U.S. News rankings validates the quality of our more than 120 academic programs," said Chancellor Ruth J. Person. "We constantly strive to provide our students with the highest quality of education, delivered by an outstanding faculty."
In addition to the No. 20 ranking for regional public university in the Midwest, U.S. News listed UM-Flint as No. 70 overall (out of 170) in the Midwest among both private and public institutions. In addition, UM-Flint's School of Management was named the 233rd (out of 353) best undergraduate business program in the region.
The U.S. News "Best Colleges 2013″ rankings paperback will be available in mid-September.
