Police: Teen hit mom, sister before dad killed him

Flint-area police say a 17-year-old boy was punching and shoving his mother and sister when his father fatally shot him.

Clayton Township police Chief Scott Pavlik says the shooting happened about 1:15 p.m. Sunday in the Genesee County community, which is about 10 miles west of Flint.

The father of the teen is facing an open murder charge, after police say he shot his son inside this home on Plainview Drive in Clayton Township.

Investigators say the teen allegedly got into an argument with his mother that turned violent. Police said the teen threw a wheelchair at his mother. The chief says the 64-year-old father heard the fight and left his bedroom with a .45-caliber handgun, then shot the teen once in the abdomen.

He was taken to a hospital, where he later died. Pavlik says police have had a lot of contact with the teen over his behavior. The father is jailed on open murder and firearms charges. His name hasn't been released.

Late Monday afternoon, the father was released from police custody.
