Man who mistakenly shot friend through front door gets prison time

A case of mistaken identity last year not only landed a local man in the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but his friend who shot him through a door will now do time in prison.

The shooting stems from an incident in August 2011, when 37-year-old Michael Bush shot through his Saginaw Township home's front door when he thought he was being robbed. Investigators said the shots rang out around 1:45 a.m., and it turned out the person at the door was Bush's friend, who was hit twice in the stomach. The friend survived but spent time in a coma.

Bush pleaded no contest to charges of assault with intent to murder. Now, Bush has learned he will spend three to 10 years in prison for the shooting.

At the time, residents in the area were alarmed at the shooting.

"It's kind of scary to be happening around here. It's a real quiet neighborhood, not a whole lot goes on around here at all," said neighbor Tim LaBrake last year. "Occasionally there's a traffic stop on the street, but that's about it."
