Magic Johnson to return for 'Promise' fundraiser

Former NBA star and Michigan native Magic Johnson will be helping to make college dreams come true for some local students.

Johnson, who used to play for the Los Angeles Lakers, will be in Saginaw for his second "Magic of a Promise" fundraiser.

The "Magic of a Promise" is part of the Saginaw Promise Scholarship program, which provides thousands of dollars per year for students in the Saginaw school district to use for college. In 2010, Saginaw was selected to become a "promise zone," in which communities raise cash to help offset the cost of college.

Johnson's fundraiser will be Tuesday, April 9 at the Temple Theater. Last year's event drew in more than $70,000 for scholarships, with Johnson himself donating $20,000.

For tickets to this year's event, call 989-755-0545, ext. 210.
