An Internet outage has struck dozens of Michigan's colleges and universities.
MLive.com reports service provider Merit Network's connectivity went offline about midnight and was restored around five hours later on Wednesday morning.
According to Merit Network official Elwood Downing, the outage wasn't caused by the winter storm that hit the state starting on Tuesday.
He says Merit Network technicians diverted the Internet connection to other paths to restore service. Downing says the organization will address the issue with its members once it determines the specific problem.
The Ann Arbor-based nonprofit member-governed organization provides Internet service to most of Michigan's public universities and community colleges.
