Hearings set for Michigan shooting spree suspect

A man charged in a shooting spree that targeted motorists along a highway corridor in four Michigan counties is due in court.

The results of forensic competency examinations administered to Raulie Casteel are to be discussed at district court hearings Wednesday in Howell and Novi.

Two hearings are scheduled because the 43-year-old unemployed geologist faces charges in separate jurisdictions.

Oakland County prosecutors have brought 60 charges, including multiple counts of assault with intent to murder, in connection with shootings in Wixom and Commerce Township. The state attorney general's office, meanwhile, has charged Casteel with terrorism and other counts related to shootings in the other counties.

Most of the October shootings targeted cars near Interstate 96.

Defense lawyers describe Casteel as a married, college-educated, stay-at-home dad with no criminal history.
