Flags lowered for ex-state Sen. Philip Mastin
Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered that U.S. flags at the state Capitol fly at half-staff through Dec. 15 in honor of ex-state Sen. Philip Mastin.
The former Democratic lawmaker and Fenton resident died last Wednesday at 82.
Snyder said Monday that Mastin was "a dedicated leader and passionate public servant."
A memorial service for Mastin is at 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at First United Methodist Church in Fenton.
Besides serving in the state Senate and House, Mastin was a Hazel Park city council member, Oakland County supervisor and commissioner, and Pontiac city manager.
The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak says he's survived by wife Donna, daughters Dawn Bobby and Cheryl Brown, son Philip Mastin III, nine grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
