Clergy to rally against concealed gun legislation

Clergy from across the state are expected to rally in Lansing and call on Gov. Rick Snyder to veto legislation that could allow concealed weapons in schools and churches.

Members of Michigan Prophetic Voices and the Metro Coalition of Congregations say they will hold a prayer vigil Tuesday afternoon outside Snyder's office.

Snyder pledged Monday to take a close look at the legislation. He told The Associated Press that his public safety concerns have been heightened following Friday's mass shooting that left 26 people -- including 20 children -- dead at a Connecticut elementary school.

Michigan's gun bill would allow someone with extra training to carry a concealed weapon in a gun-free zone. However, schools, churches and other entities could declare themselves off-limits to openly carried guns under trespass laws.
