Stormi Barancik loves her dogs. She wants to keep them safe so she uses a dog harness when her pets travel in the car.

"I love my babies. It's a lot safer for them. Instead of having a collar on it gives them more safety, freedom, and stuff," Barancik said.

But now there's an alarming new study that gives these harnesses a failing grade in terms of safety. The Center for Pet Safety tested restraints designed for larger dogs from 50 to 85 pounds. In crash tests using crash test dog dummies every harness failed. No products were deemed safe enough to protect dogs and humans riding in a car involved in an accident. During a simulated accident at 30 miles per hour, test dummies fly through the windshield, others are strangled by the harness. The mere thought of something like this happening to Barancik's dog was too much for her to take.

"I'm very sad and sick that that's happening. If that's the case and harnesses aren't safe then they should be taken off the market," Barancik said.

The Center for Pet Safety did not release the brand names of the harnesses. They were tested as part of a pilot study in 2011.
