All 6 Michigan proposals go down in defeat
Michigan voters have spoken and the clear message is hands off the state Constitution.
Voters rejected all six proposals that would have amended the state Constitution in some way.
Proposal 1, which dealt with the Emergency Financial Manager law, was the closest race. The proposal was defeated 52 percent to 48 percent.
The defeat of Proposal 2 now means that unions are not guaranteed collective bargaining rights. Proposal 2 went down 59 percent to 41 percent.
Michigan voters rejected Proposal 3, which would have ordered utilities to produce at least 25 percent of electricity by renewable resources. The proposal was rejected by a 63 percent to 37 percent vote.
Proposal 4's defeat means that in-home healthcare workers will not be afforded collective bargaining rights. Proposal 4 was defeated 58 percent to 42 percent.
The rejection of Proposal 5 means that House and Senate lawmakers will not need a two-thirds vote in order to raise taxes. The proposal was rejected by a 69 percent to 31 percent vote.
Lastly, Proposal 6 was shot down, which means Michigan voters will not need to weigh in on new bridges or tunnels built between the state and Canada. Proposal 6 was defeated by a 60 percent to 40 percent vote.
